Tell Me

Tell me the story---

tell me that there is a story---

(anything at all, the truth

console my youth).

Come, please, I need to hear

inside my swirling seashell ear

the sweetly sliding, simple sound

that these two feet will find the ground,

will land, these terrified and pale white

toes

will touch soft grass and will repose

upon green growth---

a million blades

that testify

a million shades

of life reside upon black soil.

I'll be assured, I'll end my toil

I'll stretch and lie down, drift to sleep

knowing that the soil will keep

my roots alive and so I'll thrive

contrive

to never ask again

a thing.

My wing

is broken.

I will fall,

Should I rise to heaven at all.

Now I tumble, twirl and twine

(I think the wind has had some wine

and gravity has gone too far)

Oh help me, I'm

a

falling

star

(I hold no grudge, just tell me please)

that I will land

on rock, on sand

it matters not, so precious long

as I'm not streaking down along

the universe's edge, as now

---I disavow my azure sky

I'll never fly

again. Just please---

appease

my tearing, choking ache to land

(on rock, on sand)

let me be led

let me be bound

let me but touch

some (solid) ground.
